On Wednesday, June 1, 2011, Microsoft Corporation presented the Windows 8 operating system at the Conference D9 in the state of California. This is the official press-release published at the site of Microsoft company. The new version of the operating system will work both on the computer architecture x86 and on the ARM mobile chips. Steven Sinofsky, the key Windows developer, told that "tablet" applications can now also be launched on the computers where the control is carried out with the help of the mouse and the keyboard.
Steven Sinofsky also noted that Windows 8 is a code name of the operating system. The exact name under which this operating system would be released has not yet been disclosed. The GUI of the new operating system has been considerably amended in comparison with that of Windows 7. Instead of "Start" menu the screen with application widgets will be used, similar to the mobile operating system of Windows Phone 7. For the new operating system the applications of two types are provided, such as traditional Windows programs and the applications elaborated with the use of HTML5 and JavaScript. Their developer’s toolkit will be later issued by Microsoft. Windows 8 will be supplied together with Internet Explorer 10 browser.
The date of issue of new operating system has not yet been indicated, however, Microsoft specified about its plans to release new versions every two of three years. Considering the fact that Windows 7 was released in the year 2009 the release of Windows 8 shall be expected in the year 2012.
